Aetna, Abington Cardiology collaborate on health care contract.
Two major Pennsylvania health care organizations recently announced in Abington that they have signed a five-year agreement extending cardiology benefit coverage to Aetna and Medicare Advantage patients starting March 15.
Aetna members will be eligible for coverage at in-network rates from the 17 cardiologists who serve Abington Medical Specialists/AMS Cardiology, which is affiliated with Abington Memorial Hospital in Montgomery County’s Abington Township, Pennsylvania.
“It is essential -- now more than ever -- for health care providers and insurers to work together in the mission of delivering outstanding and affordable care for the people in our community,” AMS Cardiology President Adam Cohen said. “Extending the relationship between Aetna and AMS Cardiology is a positive step toward achieving that goal.”
Serving over 1.6 million constituents in the commonwealth, Aetna provides members with access to 238 hospitals with over 80,000 doctors. AMS Cardiology is a large cardiovascular practice caring for tens of thousands of patients in the metropolitan Philadelphia area, with an emphasis on quality care and ongoing education.
“Aetna is very pleased to have secured a long-term agreement with the AMS Cardiology group,” Laurie Brubaker, president of Aetna’s operations in Pennsylvania, Delaware and West Virginia, said. “Network stability is very important to our members, especially in critical specialties such as cardiology. We look forward to continuing our strong relationship with these physicians.”
