WESCO International names O’Brien new director.

WESCO International Inc., Pennsylvania’s electrical, construction and supply chain management leader, recently elected Fortune 500 veteran James O’Brien to serve on its board of directors.

O'Brien will begin his duties on Jan. 1, 2016, the firm announced in Pittsburgh.

Currently, O’Brien works as director of two firms: Albemarle Corporation and Humana Inc. He previously served in the capacity of board chairman and CEO for Ashland Inc., a Fortune 500 company, between 2002 and 2014.

O’Brien also led Ashland -- with various locations in Kentucky, Ohio, Delaware and New Jersey -- as president and COO, in addition to serving as president of Valvoline from 1995 to 2001.

"Mr. O'Brien's successful experience as the global business leader of a Fortune 500 company makes him an outstanding addition to WESCO's talented board," WESCO Chairman John Engel said. "He will be an asset to our shareholders and our company, and we are pleased to welcome him to WESCO's board of directors."
