CMS posts online guides on health care marketplace

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently posted resources online to help those who have recently acquired health insurance coverage through the new federal marketplace.

The online resources aim to guide users on how to access their benefits.

The resources include information on primary care physicians, getting prescriptions, how to use emergency care, understanding the health plan’s provider network and how to appeal an insurer’s decision when a patient is denied payment for services.

In addition to these resources being beneficial for patients, hospital financial aid and outreach staff also may find these tools useful in helping newly insured individuals understand health insurance and how it can help users access benefits.

The resources also may be helpful to individuals enrolling in Medicaid for the first time through the Healthy PA initiative.

Recent reports from the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services show that more than 80,000 residents have applied for Medicaid coverage under Healthy PA, while another 180,000 Pennsylvania residents have enrolled for the first time or re-enrolled in the federal health insurance marketplace.

Medicaid enrollment is ongoing, while open enrollment in the federal health insurance marketplace ends on Feb. 15.
