The UPMC Health Plan will again offer the lowest-cost metallic insurance plans to residents of Allegheny and Erie counties on the Health Insurance Marketplace, with open enrollment beginning Saturday.
The Silver plan was the most popular plan in 2014, making up 73 percent of plans purchased through the marketplace. UPMC also offers three additional metallic categories, Bronze, Gold and Platinum, which are also the lowest-priced plans in their respective categories on the exchange.
"UPMC Health Plan is pleased to offer western Pennsylvania a broad selection of affordable and innovative health insurance products, including the lowest-priced plans," Diane P. Holder, president and CEO of UPMC Health Plan, said. "While this is the second year of the marketplace, this year is very different, with the variety of choices and pricing changes. We encourage consumers to be smart shoppers, and we have trained staff to be able to personally assist people with their choices. We offer the options of calling, visiting our website or seeing us in person at our mall locations."
Residents may also qualify for financial assistance or subsidies and should research this before selecting a plan. It is also important to make sure while shopping for insurance that the insured’s preferred providers are covered under the plan they choose.
