The Laurus Corporation, a real estate investment and development firm, believes in the growth and recovery of Philadelphia, said Austin Khan, Laurus’ Chief Investment Officer.
A part of investing in this recovery is Laurus’ announcement last week of a multimillion dollar renovation of the Hilton Garden Inn Philadelphia/Fort Washington.
“We saw that a lot of value could be added to the property from thorough renovations, a complete repositioning and redeployment of sales strategy,” Khan said.
Laurus’ $2.5 million ‘refresh’ of the hotel revitalized it from top to bottom, including indoor and outdoor renovations intended to create appealing central gathering spaces for guests. The 146 guest rooms have also been substantially improved.
“We have upgraded the interiors to meet the most modern of Hilton Garden Inn standards, reinvigorating the lobby and have created effective and efficient work spaces for business travelers,” Khan said. “A unique amenity that we’ve added to our king-bed guest rooms is supplemental bedding -- perfect to accommodate families and youth sports teams that are visiting for weekend tournaments.”
The hotel is located in the Philadelphia-area submarket of Fort Washington, which Laurus identified as an area with significant potential growth that has emerged from the recession around office parks. The Hilton Garden Inn is strategically located to take advantage of that growth and to play a role in it.
“As a central destination for downtown Philadelphia and Fort Washington, the property offers significant meeting facilities as well as catering capabilities for businesses that need to host visiting employees, customers and vendors, as well as hold productive sales and training meetings,” Khan said.
Laurus acquired the hotel in 2013 and its enhancements have been well-received.
