The Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance (NEPA) presented a loan agreement to the Susquehanna Brewing Company (SBC) totaling $140,000 from the USDA's Rural Development arm and the Economic Development Administration (EDA) on Monday.

The funding from the two organizations will go toward the purchase and maintenance of machinery and equipment. The company plans to expand and create more jobs.

The company specializes in brewing beers. It launched its operations in May 2012 to introduce its spin on craft beers, a rapidly growing sector of the beer and alcohol industry, to the state's northeastern region. The company's mission statement on its website said it aims to provide the region with good-tasting beverages that continue the traditions of past brewers, utilizing environmentally friendly practices and resources that are locally grown. The company aims to be active in the community, welcoming members and visitors alike, and to enhance the region as a whole.

NEPA is a nonprofit agency that aims to facilitate economic development in the northeastern region of Pennsylvania, including Carbon, Lackawanna, Monroe and Pike Counties, among several others. It specializes in business financing, providing local government resources and information, doing research and performing other services.
