Stuart H. Shapiro, M.D., the president and CEO of the Pennsylvania Health Care Association and the Center for Assisted Living Management (PHCA/CARE), made a statement of support following the gubernatorial victory of Tom Wolf on Tuesday.
“On behalf of PHCA/CALM, I want to congratulate Tom Wolf on his Election Day win," Shapiro said. "During his campaign, he made clear that Pennsylvania has an aging population that’s struggling, and he talked about the need to protect our seniors and ensure dignity in the twilight of their lives. We could not agree more.”
PHCA/CALM advocates for seniors and their providers and represents more than 425 long-term care and senior service providers. Shapiro commented on the importance of supporting these long-term care programs.
“Pennsylvania’s population is aging rapidly, and the demand for long-term care services is growing," he said. "We need to do all we can to ensure our sickest, frailest elderly residents get the services they need to live a healthy, safe, high-quality life in the most appropriate care setting as they age.”
Shapiro also expressed the willingness of PHCA/CARE to work alongside Wolf to support seniors.
“As the new governor begins his transition to the state’s top executive office, we look forward to working with him to ensure the greatest benefits to our ‘greatest generation,’” he said.
