Gov. Tom Corbett continued to promote his JOBS1st PA initiative by unveiling the addition of Virtual Job Shadow to Pennsylvania’s free online job-matching system JobGateway on Wednesday.
“Virtual Job Shadow, which complements many of the existing features of JobGateway, is another tool to help Pennsylvanians find and work toward family-sustaining jobs,” Corbett said.
The new virtual tool is a collection of short videos showing daily activities of various jobs. The intent is to show job seekers what particular jobs are like. The videos also contain information about educational requirements and other helpful information.
More than 400 careers with approximately 900 stock videos are featured within the virtual tool.
State officials said the project isn’t finished. They expect it to grow and change as careers in the state change.
“We look forward to working with Pennsylvania employers to enhance the website's library of videos, showcasing some of the many occupations in the state,” Pennsylvania Labor and Industry Secretary Julia Hearthway said.
State officials are happy with the success of JobGateway, launched in 2012. The governor debuted a tool called Big Interview, which helps people prepare for job interviews, last March. The site also has a military-to-civilian skills translator, a skills assessment tool, a personal employment module and a career evaluator.
